The heat is rising and I think we can safely say that summer is well and truly upon us here in Dubai and our thoughts are turning to cooler summer hot spots. Over the next few weeks we will be featuring destinations here that are close to heart at the Dunesi HQ – our global stockist locations. Our weekly snapshot into summer will be providing vital fashion and vacay inspo! So sit back and enjoy.
First up is … Helsinki (of course) from the native homeland of our founder Hanne who says of her home country ‘The summer is not endless in Finland but you can enjoy endless summer days in Helsinki with the midnight sun’.
From the green view of tree covered islands from the quayside to handsome art nouveau buildings, Helsinki has it all - there is even an observation Ferris Wheel - The Finnair Skywheel from which you can drink in the sights. If local sights are your thing you won’t want to miss the Sibelius Monument or the classical white walls and green domes of the Helsinki Cathedral. You can pick up local treasures in the handicraft market in Market Square where you should base yourself for a while in an alfresco café, enjoying the delicious Korvapuusti (cinnamon bun to the non-native speakers) with a steaming coffee.
Helsinki is also truly a world class shopping destination with boutiques and galleries showcasing the wares of some truly progressive designers. Make sure to explore the Design District Helsinki which is an area full of design and antique shops, fashion stores, museums, art galleries, restaurants and showrooms. You can find the most interesting names, classics, trend-setters and so much more in this area in the city centre, just look for the Design District Helsinki sign on doors and windows. Finnish design is the essence of the place – evident all over. Be prepared to soak it up and fall in love.
During the light summer evenings and nights the fabulous Helsinki really comes alive (can it get any better?!?). From the all wooden Loyly, where you can eat and drink on a huge terrace by the Baltic Sea or have a sauna (!) to Sparakoff, the famous old red pub tram which rides through the city during the summer months, there is something for everyone. Our favourite is the stunning Kappeli whose glass atrium boasts a history dating back to 1867 and is home to a modern bar, café and summer nightclub which embraces old traditions and mixes the new and the old.
Our last recommendation in Helsinki is Cafelatte Lifestyle boutique in a new shopping centre Ainoa, just 15 minutes outside of Helsinki city centre. Did we mention that Dunesi is available there? If you are passing by pop in and browse the selection of Dunesi's boho maxi dresses and all other lovely items in the shop.
